During the summer our family enjoys hiking and camping in the wilderness that surrounds our home. This is one of our favorite places to go blueberry and cranberry picking. Every August we pick lots of low-bush cranberries and blueberries.

Sometimes our family flies to remote locations to go camping. On this trip we flew into the Alaska Range south of Fairbanks and camped near glaciers. The gravel bars along the rivers were covered with blooming fireweed. We explored the edges of the Trident Glacier, hiked over ridges of flower-specked tundra, and spotted caribou, Dall sheep, and many species of nesting birds.

Soccer is a very popular sport in Fairbanks. We have a recreational league, and a competitive league for more serious players. Robin and Casey both play on competitive teams. From November through April they play indoor soccer in school gymnasiums. Once the snow disappears in April and May, they play outside. In June our community hosts the annual Midnight Sun soccer tournament. With 24-hour daylight, they even schedule games at midnight!
